Lakshmi Mittal, who was in 2006, the world's third richest man, and today has net worth of 1.14 Lakh Cr Rupees, has a mansion in UK and runs the largest steel company of the world was once living in a small house with no water and no electricity in a village called Sadulpur, Rajasthan. Tough believe, but that's what success looks like.
Lakshmi Mittal's father was an entrepreneur who left his home to start a small scale steel parts manufacturing unit in Kolkata, and Lakshmi joined this unit in early 1970s. And soon he took his father's business to new heights when Mittal opened his first full scale steel manufacturing industry in Indonesia, that today has turned into a billion dollar business known as ArcelorMittal.
Once this Indonesian venture picked up pace, Lakshmi Mittal started acquiring failed and some times shut down steel plants all over the globe and turned them into profitable ones in no time.
He formed Mittal Steel in 2004, after the merging of various companies which resulted in the company being the largest steelmaker by output in the world. In 2006, the company merged with France based Arcelor, a steel giant, to form ArcelorMittal which is listed on NYSE.
In January 2021, he relieved himself of the CEO position which he passed on to his son Aditya Mittal but remains executive chairman of ArcelorMittal.
