Based on what I've seen on TLC's Sister Wives, the cast tried to obtain substantial capital from investors to create the Sister Wives Closet, Network Marketing Business. Throughout the early seasons of the series, the family constantly made references to the "marketing business" that they were involved in. The marketing business is what helped Kody get the convertible Marano as well as introductions to various people who we see on the show. Two people in particular was Stan and Amy from the Venture Capital Investor group,

After considering the Brown family's business experience, their presentation to the investment group only makes sense if they were pitching a MLM business. This would explain the constant reference and importance placed on "marketing strategies" to grow the business.
