NATO - 20 NATO Countries Deploy 50 Ships, 45 Aircraft & 6,000 Personnel (BALTOPS 23)
Held annually in the Baltic Sea, this year’s iteration started on 4 June and will continue until 16 June, giving NATO Allies and partners a chance to practise large-scale maritime and amphibious operations. Led by the US Navy’s Sixth Fleet, the exercise is controlled by Naval Striking and Support Forces NATO (STRIKFORNATO), NATO’s maritime operational staff. BALTOPS 23 remains an alliance proving ground, and is vital for honing the leading edge of combined interoperability with allies and partner nations, in and around the Baltic Sea. This year, Finland is welcomed as a NATO member, among nineteen NATO Allies and one NATO partner nation, with 50 ships, more than 45 aircraft, and approximately 6,000 personnel. Participating nations include Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden, Türkiye, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
